In March 1994, the Company began catering to the needs of the Department of Fisheries, one of the three departments within the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, dealing with primary resources development in Brunei Darussalam. The Company’s choice of dealing with the Fisheries Department stemmed from its firm belief that Brunei’s fisheries industry is one of the potential growth sectors in the country. Duaodua Sdn Bhd supplied feeds, chemicals, equipment, netting and other materials for expansion of its aquaculture projects.

In June 1994, the Department of Fisheries awarded Duaodua an initial 4-hectare lot for a pilot aquaculture development project in Kampong Keramut, Danau, Telisai, Tutong. The Company is currently producing tiger prawns and rostris for local consumption and started exporting for the last two years to Malaysia and neighboring countries.

In collaboration with Dames and Moore (1996), the company conducted a resource survey for the Department of Fisheries on “The Determination of the Total Biomass, Species Composition and Distribution of Pelagic Stocks in Brunei Darussalam”. This project undertook small pelagic fisheries surveys in the offshore environment and the nearshore environment in Brunei Darussalam.

Early 1998, the company has been awarded an expansion area of 30 hectares for prawn production by the Department of Fisheries. The Company at present awaits the indication of a good export market to expand and develop the remaining pond areas.
